Job's anguish is just beyond... He has lost so much... He endures so much. Every day we encounter people who complain about little things - at least they are little to us. And, sometimes the complainer is us. "Mountains out of molehills," making ourselves even more miserable as we emerse ourselves in our own little pits of despair. It astounds me sometimes that there is such a lack of faith in God, that He is and will be with them through it all. I do not mean to say that there are not legitimate reasons to grieve. But, I think it would truly help if we remembered that their are others in this world who are starving, they are in serious pain as they suffer from diseases, as they grieve the loss of family and friends. Not being able to afford the newest and latest "toy" is not a reason to despair. That is just spoiled and self-centered. The next time we complain and pout because we're not getting what we want when we want it, let's take a moment to consider Job's situation, our neighbor's situations. Let us take a moment to consider the suffering that Christ endured, and that he endured for us.
Job's friends are of no help to him. Since he is in such great despair, they try to encourage him to figure out how he's sinned. They blame him for being sick. They blame him for his losses. Sometimes, there just is no reason that can be fathomed by human beings. It just is. At times like these, all that is required of friends and brothers and sisters, is to just be there; sitting silently, listening and praying.
