Joel 2 - Straight Ahead; Never Swerving

The words of Joel paint a pretty graphic picture of the day of the LORD. On that day every one who lives in the land will tremble, as they ought to be now in preparation for it.

I find the picture of the army advancing all in a straight line is particularly intriguing.
"They all march in line,
    not swerving from their course.
They do not jostle each other;
    each marches straight ahead.
They plunge through defenses
    without breaking ranks." (Joel 2:7b-8 NIV)
I can only begin to imagine what it would be like if we, all who profess Jesus the Christ, could advance straight ahead, doing the LORD's will. Can you imagine? Never swerving from the path... Working in unison?

May God help us to be so faithful.

Job 40 - 41 - God Is Our Defense

At long last, Job has figured out that he has nothing to say in his defense.  He is not God.

In this discourse between the LORD and Job, the LORD continues to remind Job who He is.  In humility, Job is getting it.

One of the mosts intriguing figures, for me, in scripture is Leviathan, that great sea monster.  At least, that's what I think Leviathan is. It appears to be a creature so amazing that no man can conquer it. And, God reminds Job of this.  There are many things in this world that man cannot conquer without the help of God.  I remind you, again, this morning that God is God.  There is only one God and it is not us.  We have no defense for acting like gods.  The only defense when we stand before the judge of all the earth is God, Himself.  It is only His love and His mercy given to us through Jesus Christ that finds us righteous. God is our defense.
