James 5:7-12 NIV
"Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned."
After a very long yesterday, this hits today's reading like a nail on the head of a hammer. People are going to disagree with me. I get that. What I don't get is why they would think that filling their disagreement with words that I cannot repeat is going to be helpful to their cause. You're not going to bully me into changing my mind. If you disagree with me, you don't have to attack me with language that is so filthy that it should not be found within your mouth. A simply yes or no will do. Anything more and you will bring suspicion and ultimately condemnation upon yourself.
Be patient then and do not swear even if it is someone else's swearing that is trying your patients.
