God speaks to us. He speaks to us in many ways. But, for some reason we do not hear. Sometimes, it is because we are so wrapped up in our own suffering and in justifying our own actions that we cannot or do not want to hear Him. We shut God out because in reality we don't want His way. We want our way.
Ever hear the noise in all the world? I know you have... Why is there so much noise? I think, just maybe, it is because we are afraid that God might speak to us and if there is sheer silence we might hear that gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:12) What would happen if we were able to heard God calling? Would we feel compelled to follow? That could be a rough road. Maybe, it's better not to listen. Then we won't have to tell God, "No."
Why is there so much noise? Because, we have turned it up in order to tune out God. I have an elderly friend who had lived for many years alone. Her closest friend was and is Jesus. Today she lives with others who care for her. She misses being alone with Jesus. She misses being able to hear God's whispers of love.
